We celebrated Thanksgiving in one of our favorite places: on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. Jon and Jenn joined us again for a long, lazy weekend. The boys were giddy for weeks in anticipation, hoping and wishing for snow.
Their wish was granted. A huge storm dumped tons of snow on the Sierra, and the highway reopened just a few hours before we began our drive.
The weekend was blissful. Frosty and fun. Every walk outdoors turned into a prolonged snowball fight, and we were lucky to find some neat snow forts on the beach and at the park. We bought snowball-makers just in time for the trip, which I viewed as a ridiculous indulgence ("back in my day...") -- but given that the boys had only flimsy knit gloves, the gadgets made it much easier for them to enjoy the frigid weather.
The weekend was capped off with a chance to meet Santa Claus. I rolled my eyes at all the moms and dads jockeying for position to snap photos, then proceeded to blind Santa with a series of flashes, all for one halfway decent photo of my kids looking bored. Despite the photographic evidence, they were very happy to get a chance to fill him in on their latest wishes.

Since the holiday, we've been in full Christmas mode. The boys happily decorated a gingerbread house and the tree, and we're enjoying holiday and birthday celebrations. It's been an unusually busy season -- lots of work for Doug and myself, and a bit rushed getting all the gifts wrapped and in the mail before we head East.
Finn was in his first holiday show at preschool. It was a happily low-key affair (I couldn't help but think back to the show Calvin's preschool put the kids through, outdoors in freezing rain, ugh). Finn talked about it for weeks, but when he climbed onstage with a reindeer nose and a pom-pom tail, he waved to us and mostly chewed on his clothing. He explained afterward: "Do you know why I was biting my shirt? Because I was scared." No kidding: It must be terrifying facing that battery of waving moms and dads wielding cameras in both hands. He seemed to enjoy the experience regardless, and loved the post-show cake and giving us a framed, sparkly tree picture he made.
Lots to do before we head to New England at the end of the week. Looking forward to seeing everyone!
