Birthday boy

After weeks of anticipation, Finn's big day arrived: He's finally 5! I awoke this morning to the sound of him loudly informing Calvin, apparently trying to settle some minor disagreement, "I'm not little anymore, Calvin! I'm five!"

He kicked off the morning watching Saturday morning cartoons with his big brother, and then I clued him in to his first present: a new Angry Birds game on the iPad. Giddiness ensued.

He wanted to open his gifts first thing in the morning but we managed to hold him off until noon. Calvin happily assembled the Lego Cars character he picked out for Finn, who headed into the back yard to try out his new bat and gloves.

After employing his new Mace Windu light saber, Finn proposed Chuck E. Cheese, so we headed off for an hour of skee ball, followed by prize candy to turn the boys' tongues funny colors.

Funny, I just realized we didn't do the one thing he had requested for his birthday earlier this week — the past few days he said for his birthday he wanted to do the limbo dance, which he saw in a book. We'll have to do that tomorrow. Or at his party next week...

This may have been the easiest birthday ever for me. He wanted pizza delivery and It's It ice cream sandwiches — no cake. Done and done!

My favorite part might have been cuddling on the bed, watching old videos with the boys. Finn giggled at clips of him playing a bad guy, being a spooky ghost, and riding the Scooba.

One of my favorites was this clip of 2-year-old Finn hoisting a bat. Three years later, and he's finally going to be able to play t-ball this spring.

He certainly isn't little any more. I miss that toddling little bobble head, but this almost-kindergartner is pretty fantastic.
