Busy summer part 2 - and now, Devon

Devon has also had a great summer! He's had lots of adventures, and loved them all. He's had a great time playing outside. At preschool, he learned that you can't do monkey bars at the playground until you're 5, and lo and behold it's true! He couldn't do them last year, but this year he is swinging around like a pro. He loves swimming...he has trouble swimming above the water (such as doing the crawl) but zooms around like a fish underwater. A major rite of passage for him was being allowed to go down the water slides at the gym, which he loves!

He's had fun trips to the zoo - where he took a few half-day classes for preschoolers on snakes and sharks. He enjoyed visits from Grandma Chris and Grandpa Jerry, a riverboat cruise on the Saint Croix River, and a show at Circus Juventas (all of the performers are kids!). A special highlight was meeting Grandma and Grandpa in Iowa for a trip to the Iowa State fair (and lots of time in the fabulous pirate ship pool).

He's also had a very creative summer - his drawing skills increased, and he spends lots of time drawing and coloring. He's also taken to writing books. He dictates the text and does all of the illustrations. Most have some kind of good versus evil theme, with a triumphant win at the end for the heroes. I plan on posting some of his artwork and stories in a subsequent post. His new room (also to be highlighted in a future post) includes a much-coveted desk, so that he will have a place to write stories.
