Freedom! (Uh-Oh)

We put a small desk in the boys' bedroom at the start of the school year. Now, instead of going to sleep, some nights the boys stay up making stuff. The construction paper and scissors and markers and stapler get scant attention during the day, but after hours — look out! This evening, Finn made a picture of his favorite Lego Ninjago characters for me, with a stapled piece of another drawing of people in jail (because he loves me so much, he said).

Calvin drew out the life cycle of a monarch butterfly, along with a caterpillar and a chrysalis made from modeling clay (inspired by his class field trip Wednesday to see the migrating monarchs in Santa Cruz). He also made Finn a modest headress, and made one for himself emblazoned "leader." He came out with a signup sheet for us to join their new Indian tribe. (We did.)
